This 30-inch retractable downdraft vent rises 13.5 inches to help filter steam from tall stockpots, and remains flush with the cooking surface when not in use. The 585 CFM Motor Class* ventilation system has the power to provide effective venting for most cooktops or ranges. The system is reversible to help fit in the cabinet space under the vent. Performance varies based on installation. Resources available at AHAM.org

Great performance

I've used this vent for about four weeks. I installed it myself to ensure it was done correctly. This downdraft vent will move a LOT of air - far more than my old Jenn-Air downdraft. I like that the fan speed is highly adjustable from low to high. The chimney can be retracted with the fan on, and it will automatically turn the fan off. When elevated again, it returns to the previously set fan speed. Nice. When on high or med-high, the airflow creates fairly loud whir noise, but I don't think you can move that much air through a confined area without hearing it. I like the capability to exhaust a kitchen full of smoke or odor if needed, but low or med-low works fine for me and is much quieter. The height of the chimney means that it doesn't distort the flames and heat from the burners like my old Jenn-Air downdraft did. The metal filters disconnect easily for cleaning in the dishwasher.

Great to not have a huge vent hood. Allows us to have the cooktop on the island.

Am very happy with this downdraft. Unit was a little hard to install due to "pop-rivets" sticking out on sides. When installing in granite, you need to allow a little extra for these rivets.

Bad product, with worse customer service

clear No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The product never worked since, installation. After two visits the authorized repair company came back to me and said the critical part required to fix the problem is back ordered, without an ETA. Kitchen Aid offered only to expedite the part request. I have since provided this information, and can do nothing but wait until it is fixed. KitchenAid says that I am eligible only repair and not replacement, after initial 30 days after purchase. The unit was installed 1 month after the purchase to synchronize with the counter installation. It failed on the day of the installation, and it has been 2 months since then. For something which has not worked from day 1, and the customer is waiting for 2+ months, I am not sure this is an acceptable response. This is not an acceptable level of customer service. I had to wait for 3 times for more than 30 minutes to reach an agent.
