5 Tips for Kitchen Design That Are Cook-Friendly
Mon Aug 22 2011
It is usually the kitchen that is the hub of the home for a lot of families. This can cause an issue for households that have a compact kitchen and the challenge becomes designing a workable space that, though limited in size, provides the right tools and amount of space to prepare meals for a large family. Take a look at these 5 tips for a cook-friendly kitchen from kitchen designer, Scott Sylvester.
1. Make sure you use square footage carefully. Every cabinet and drawer should have a purpose.
2. Create a work triangle that is tight. Minimize the number of steps from the sink to the refrigerator to the cooking/preparation area.
3. Use durable materials that can withstand the beating of a large family. (Example: Concrete countertops)
4. An open kitchen provides plenty of seating and entertaining space while allowing the cook to be in the middle of the action.
5. Plan, plan, plan. Make a list of everything that you want in your kitchen and how it should fit into your lifestyle.
